The artwork for the original colour lithograph was created by Raphael T Roussel and printed by McCorquodale & Co. Limited London between 1921 and 1930. "P&O one class service, 32 Lime Street, London, E.C.3., Agents Sercombe and Hayes, 9 South Street, Dorchester"

This wonderful poster was created during the years between World Wars I AND II appealing to, mainly British, who were contemplating migrating. Promoting a P&O one class service to Australia for 37 pounds was a good deal and the poster was the ideal crowd-puller, promoting a vision of Australia as a land of sunshine, opportunity and rural prosperity. Arrival by ship to Australia isn't so welcoming in the 21st century.

About the artist:
Roussel was born in Chelsea, South West London in 1883 and was the son of the French born English painter, Theodore Casini Roussel. Little is known about the artist although its widely believed that Raphael had no formal training other than direction from his father. Roussel primarily designed posters for P&O and RSMP steam ship lines promoting travel to exotic destinations as Australia and Sudan.
