The Forth Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge over the Firth of Forth [the estuary or firth of Scotland's River Forth] in the east of Scotland, 9 miles (14 kilometres) west of Edinburgh City Centre. The Forth Bridge was designed by the English engineers Sir John Fowler and Sir Benjamin Baker.

The railway journey from London to Aberdeen had taken over 13 hours, completion the Forth Bridge reduced the journey time to 10 and a half hours. Construction of the bridge began in 1882 and it was opened on 4 March 1890 by the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII, who drove home the last rivet.

The Forth Bridge spans the Forth between the villages of South Queensferry and North Queensferry. The total length of 8,094 feet (2,467 metres) and was the longest single cantilever bridge span in the world until 1917 until the Quebec Bridge in Canada was erected. To this day Forth Rail Bridge continues to be the world's second-longest single cantilever span.
