The artwork for the original Multi-Colour Screen Printed Poster was created by George Bridgman during the late 1940's and was published by the N.Z. Government Tourist Dept. around 1947. A stunning vintage travel poster promoting Rotorua, New Zealand features a Maori elder in traditional dress.
George Bridgman was a graphic artist, born in London, studied art at the London Polytechnic and came to New Zealand in the mid-1920s. He became Art Director of New Zealands National Publicity Studios and managed the work of Leonard Mitchell and Marcus King. George Bridgman had an enormous influence over the choice of subject matter and the general quality of the studio’s work.
The city of Rotorua takes its name and is situated on the southern shores of Lake Rotorua, on New Zealand's North Island, in the Bay of Plenty Region.
Rotorua is a popular destination for domestic and international tourists. The area is world famous for its geothermal activity and includes geysers, predominantly the Pohutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa and hot mud pools.
