The Original Colour Lithograph was designed by Viggo Vagnby in 1953 and Published for the Tourist Association of Copenhagen.
Viggo Vagnby completed an apprenticeship as a painter in Aarhus and travelled to France in the early 1920s to improve his skills as a draughtsman. He worked as an advertising draughtsman and exhibition architect and eventually established a drawing office in Aalborg.
As a poster designer, Viggo Vagnby was a distinguished tourist poster artist. He made use of simplified form and emphasised characteristic elements of a region or a town. His most famous poster and perhaps one of the most iconic of all Danish posters, is titled Wonderful Copenhagen; illustrating a policeman holding back the traffic for a mother duck and a line of ducklings.
